For her undergrad at Stellenbosch University, Carissa majored in biomathematics and mathematical statistics with minors in ecology, botany and biotechnology. In her honors year, she partly attended the African Institute of Mathematical Sciences and partly Stellenbosch University. The focus of Carissa's final year research was developing a meta approach to gene set analysis of microarray expression data. She is currently working with Dr Jacobson to expand this research to genome wide association studies.
