Robert Grzywacz

Professor of Physics, UT


Robert Grzywacz is Professor of Physics at the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Tennessee and a visiting research scientist at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory's (ORNL) Physics Division. He received his Ph.D. in 1998 in Nuclear Physics from Warsaw University in Poland. In year 2001-2003 was a Wigner Fellow at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

His research is focused on studies of very short lived, "exotic" nuclei which are of interest for both fundamental understanding of the nuclear many body problem as well as in astrophysical and energy applications. He and his group carry out experiments at accelerator facilities, which are capable to produce the most exotic species. Until most recently, most if his successful and pioneering studies were carried out at the Holifield Radioactive Ion Beam Facility at ORNL which applied digital signal processing techniques to nuclear spectroscopy of decays of rare isotopes.

His research is sponsored by DOE Office of Science and NNSA. He is the coauthor of nearly 200 peer reviewed publications.
