Program:

Energy Science and Engineering (ESE)

Barshan Dev is a doctoral researcher in Energy Science and Engineering at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

He is a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory through the Bredesen Center for Interdisciplinary Research and Graduate Education, which is governed by the UT-Oak Ridge Innovation Institute (UT-ORII).

His primary research interests encompass the broad domains of materials and manufacturing, with a particular emphasis on advanced composite materials, polymer additive manufacturing, and AI-driven computational modeling for next-generation manufacturing.

Education

He received his Bachelor’s degree in Textile Engineering from Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX) and his Master’s degree in Textile Engineering from Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET).

Research

Dev’s research focuses on developing high-performance and sustainable fiber-reinforced polymer composites through advanced additive manufacturing and computational modeling.

He investigates natural and recycled fiber-reinforced materials, experimental characterization, computational modeling, and data-driven methods to improve the performance, manufacturability, sustainability, and material efficiency of advanced composite systems.

At the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory, his research supports the development of scalable advanced manufacturing technologies and sustainable composite materials for lightweight, high-performance applications.

Ultimately, his work aims to accelerate the adoption of advanced composite manufacturing while enabling more resource-efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable materials and manufacturing systems.
