Biography
Supervising Faculty: Michael Langston
During her undergraduate degree at Stellenbosch University, Carissa majored in biomathematics and mathematical statistics with minors in ecology, botany and biotechnology. In her honors year, she attended the African Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Stellenbosch University. The focus of her final year research was to develop a meta approach to gene set analysis (GSA) of microarray expression data.
In 2015 and 2016 she worked with Dr. Daniel Jacobson in large-scale biological dataset analysis using the resources of the Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility. She is now working with Dr. Langston in graph algorithms and applications in biology. A current project is developing a robust approach to determine the optimal threshold for a given graph.
