Ella Williams

Graduate Student
Program:

Energy Science and Engineering (ESE)

Williams has earned the Outstanding Graduate in Chemistry, Outstanding Research Student, and Heintzman Research Scholar awards. She has been involved with research at Oak Ridge National Laboratory for three years, starting with summer internships under Dr. Guang Yang, and continues work in the Energy Storage and Conversion Group on novel battery technologies.

Education

Williams obtained a B.S. in Chemistry from Freed-Hardeman University in May 2025.

Research

Williams is studying all-solid-state batteries as a promising alternative to traditional, liquid-electrolyte-based systems. Solid electrolytes, however, have difficulties in application, causing mechanical and electrochemical degradation of cells. By investigating solid electrolyte processing and performance, highly energy-dense batteries can be obtained and improved through the mitigation of these difficulties.
