Sierra Begley
Genome Science and Technology (GST)
During my undergraduate studies, Begley participated in the SULI program at Oak Ridge National Laboratory as an intern with the Environmental Risk and Energy Analysis Group. She was also an ORISE Summer Fellow with the FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Nutrition. Between 2023 and 2024, she served as an undergraduate research assistant in the Hanley-Bowdoin lab at NCSU, where she helped investigate the role of viral satellites in resistance break in Cassava mosaic disease-resistant cassava cultivars.
Education
Begley graduated from North Carolina State University in December 2024 with a B.S. degree in Genetics and Plant Biology.
Research
Begley is investigating the use of RNA plant viruses as tools for the rapid expression of large gene cassettes in key crop species to improve current methods of plant transformation.
