Chaffin’s research is in plant genetics and biochemistry, with a focus on secondary metabolism and metabolic engineering. His current work is with the SABATH family, a diverse group of plant-specific methyltransferase enzymes. By studying these enzymes, we can discover their native functions in plants and utilize them for various applications, such as biofuel production.
